Day of work today. My main chore was to buy supplies in Memphis. So off I went to buy cup, plates, plastic ware for the welcoming picnic Sunday evening and the dinners a local lady, Miss Mary, cooks for the construction workers, and others.

I left early trying to beat the storms that were suppose to hit today. It's 7 PM and they finally
got here. The cool front is pushing through now from the NW.
On the way in I took a detour to check out a local Corps of Engineers flood prevention lake project: Lake Arkabutla. It was beautiful spot surrounded by trees. As I drove across the dam, I had to slowly pick my way through hundreds of dragon flies. I have never seen so many. Then is on into Memphis

On the way back to HWL I took a side road to get a photo of the delta. All the delta is is the old flood plain of the Mississippi River before the days of the levies. It is where the hight ground ends and the flood plain begins. Below is a photo driving off the side of the high ground down to the delta plain.

In this photo you can see farming as far as trees in far distance. Those trees are along the Mississippi. Swampy bayous and farm land describe the delta.

Here is another show showing one of the three crops of the delta: rice.
Along with soy beans and cotton, rice is one of the top crops. Arkansas and
Texas grow most of the rice the US produces. Along with the rice comes
the peskie mosquito. We don't get one without the other. There is a lot of rice growing in these parts.

By the time I got back to HWH, I had missed lunch. I couldn't stop because
I had 20 boxes of granola bars in the car and they would melt if I took the time. But Leonora saved me. She had two slices of pizza left from every else's lunch. They were delicious.

After that I had to disinfect the water coolers for use. Good old Clorox. It took a while, but each cooler to be used this summer was washed good with Clorox to prepare them for the camps use. Finishing that is clean up time. I had more or less disinfected myself and I could stand the smell of Clorox no longer. So I called it a day and headed for the house. More tomorrow.
